Why not just use tap water? Seems like a big risk for just a few gallons of water

Hehe bump for a 4 year old threadHello; I read in the current issue of The Family Handyman Magazine a brief paragraph about dehumidifier water. The winter 2017 issue on page 15. States "Just don't drink it-it could contain microbes and trace amounts of metals that are harmful to humans."
The microbes could be in the air and find a good place to grow in the condensate and in the holding tank.
The trace amounts of metal might come from the metal coils and/or the welds holding them together.
The paragraph suggests using it for plants. I pour mine into the washing machine and have not used it in a tank.
I've been doing it with four 30 pint units for about a month with a continuous water change of 1500-2000 gal a day. Have not noticed anything but I heed Oddball and RD. for very sure.
I've treated some with prime and added into tanks without a problem or negative result. Prime will take care of the trace metals that might appear. I don't see what "chemicals" or "oils" come out of the air in our houses, that we don't breathe? The air in my house is clean.
