I use the good olé FB to promote Jurassic aquatics/ polypterus fanatics and part of gun trading and buying groups I might not otherwise have access to. Keeping in touch with old military friends and family, well that and harassing kevin Fleming. I think Facebook is like anything else you make it what you want it to be.

if I ever make an account it will be for harassing kev too

All the problems people are talking about are to do with the people/pages they CHOOSE to see. You are in control of what comes onto your newsfeed, if you're sick of the same people or annoying stuff then hide/unlike/block the page (and report all the ads as spam! ;) ).

My biggest gripe at the moment is that my favourite LFS shares 90% of the posts/photos posted by my local aquarium society so I see them twice, don't really want to hide either, but sick of the double ups...

I open my FB back when it first started. But I never open with my name only my business name. So none of my relatives or friends know me on there. Most of my friends are people I've done business with. I never do anything on there. Once in a while a customer will message me on there and I will respond. But other then those rare times I never visit it.

Let me see:

I use my Facebook for

1) talk politics with one of my high school buddies who is an aspiring politician in Florida, a moderate black republican

2) talk ancient coins and numismatics in general

3) show grandparents grandson's pictures

4) gawking at Li's feeders(red tail cats).

Etc.

I think FB is what you make out of it. There is nothing wrong with FB, its the friends you add, the groups you are in, how you present yourself on FB by the words you type, etc. I have FB, it's 99% hunting, fishing, outdoors related stuff. The few "friends" that slip by me and are always using profanity, posting stupid crap, etc. they get deleted, it's as simple as that. Don't take it out on FB, FB is just a platform that you use to communicate with. The other 1% is family and real life friends. I see so many fishing and hunting photos on my FB, things I probably would have never seen or heard of. I love seeing everyone's photos, the story behind it, etc. If you use FB correctly there wont be much of a problem, but if you abuse it then you are bringing that onto yourself. Because once you bicker about a post someone makes, you wait for the reply, then reply, then wait again and again. It's no different than on MFK when someone start's to complain about something, once you make your post you wait for the other to reply back and it goes on and on. A lot of folks get their ego hurt so they will always try to one up them to make them look like they are right, no one ever seems to be right and no one ever seems to be wrong. You don't like a post or a photo of the duck face, just read on to the next one. No need to comment. Your comment is useless and wont change the fact that the person will stop making those faces. Someone made a post about Obama that you don't agree with it?, leave it alone, what you say and what they say wont make a difference in your life whatsoever, it's not going to change anything.
