I want to get a very large tank soon after I sell my condo.. I have my eye on a 750 gal :D

They dont care what sex the other tank mate is do they? I want to get another delhezi.. Or if I find something similar I would love to get it!

I saw someone selling two 14" ornates online !! But they are to big for the space I have right now.

"LOL. Lucky! your store only has delhezis? I just got my delhezi here in Canada a few days ago! They are so rare here! Waited 5 months to get one!"

Wow that is crazy, they have a whole tank full of 5-6inchers lol
I am going to ask them next time I am there when they will be getting something else in :) They usually email me with new stuff

it doen't matter of the gender of ur bichirs (in my case it isn't). just don't get a bichir that is way bigger than ur bichir (in this case the 14 inch ornates aren't a good idea). get bichir that is appoximately the same size or 1 or 2 inches off ur bichir. Good luck.

Okay, and I wasn't planning on getting the ornate ones, those are way to big for my tank and they would probably eat the one I have now. lol

thx :)

I used a 25kg bag of sand and that seemed to give decent coverage, gave me a layer about 1.5 - 2 inches. Would depend on your tank and your preferences though.

I would get a palmas bichir because they're active fish and they look a little better than senegals. If your delhezi isn't active, the palmas will make him more active bc most of them start looking for food right when you put it in the water.

My delhezi is very active, she is always moving around, half ass chasing the other fish in the tank, and swimming about.

I havnt seen a palmas bichir anywhere yet, but if I do I will be sure to snatch it up!

I didnt see any senegals at the shop today :( i was so ready to buy one lol

Nothing wrong with senegals, they're what got most of us started on bichirs. A lot of personality in the little beggars!
To get back on topic: African Brown Knife, got my first bichir as a tank mate for it and promptly fell in love with bichirs in general.

You could go with an "African" theme tank with some Ctenopoma, African Brown Knife, Congo Tetras, African Butterfly Fish, Synodontis Cat, etc.

Im not pro but ill tell you what i have kept with my bichirs over the years.

Centapoma are great looking fish and are the best tank mates with bichirs. Pluse youll be sticking in the amazon biotope.

I also had a high fin banded shark (not a shark). This probably sends somepeople through the roof but he was a perfect tank mate. Way too big to eat. Constantly swam around looking for food. They are a cold water fish and bichirs are warm but he did fine in a tank that was kept at 79.

I had problems with Plcos in the past. Key parts to keeping plecos with bichirs.....lots of hiding spots, lots of driftwood for the pleco to eat, throw cucumber slices in the tank once a week for the pleco, and research the most peacfull pleco species. I have settled on Royal plecos. You can get them when they are a little smaller than the bichirs because their bodys are shaped so wide. But it just might be that i found two really peacful royal plecos.

If you are really going to upgrade thank size you could get a small arowana. They stay on the surface and the bichirs stay on the bottem. They get huge so be ready to upgrade tank. but.....the second coolest fish besides bichirs. Its not sugested but they can even eat mice when fully grown.

Again......im not as experance as other people that have allready posted. Just sharing my tank mates.
