Usually girls like pretty colorful things but ive noticed a lot of burly manly men middle aged and up Keep discus and rarely do I see young women discus keepers. So is this the new manly thing to keep discus? these pretty lil fishies so colorful and brightJ There so beautiful and delicate colorful specimens just like flowers are adored by manly men. sup with that?

LOL I guess I'm one of those Manly Men. I just picked up a pair of discus this weekend. It a hobby, we're aquarist, -amatures or pros- we all just love fishes ^^

I've discoved 99% of the population picks fish the same way they pick cars or furniture. If it's pretty, shiny, expensive or has status they want it. I don't think it has anything to do with age or gender. I'm one of the 1% of the population that picks fish, cars and furniture for reasons other than they're "shiny or pretty or expensive" :-)

Maybe it's a pulling technique?

'Hey pretty lady, wanna see my discus?:naughty:'

Haha that could be true in my instance. The discus seal the deal:nilly:

I've been keeping fish since around 1969. I've had many, many species over the years, fresh and salt. It's never been about "pretty fishes" or other nonsense. It's about the uniqueness, and behavior of the various species. Discus are a very unique species, and can be quite challenging to keep and breed successfully. Behavior and hardiness can sometimes vary with strains. Especially with some of the wild strains. That's part of their charm.
