Dent in the forehead of my ray--- but not from being skinny?????

How is the breathing? Is there any labored breathing?

I had the same thing haappen recently with the WC Marble that I had give birth at 8.5". Noticed the dent, 48 hours later dead. I did treat the whole tank with Prazi but I also think stress had a lot to do with it too.

If it was me..... Dent = Isolate asap.

I think I caught my 1st ray with it, isolated and treated with Prazi. Took 2+ months to bring her back. I never treated the big tank till after I lost the WC one. Right after I noticed labored breathing on another. Isolated her, treated both her isolated tank and the big tank. Big tank got Prazi only, she got Parasite tabs in isolation and within a week her colors are popping like they haven't in months.

I thought it was water, but now I think it's more my rays living with stuff I should be treating. I spent some loot on Prazi, Bifuran, and Metro for the big tank, but haven't treated yet, as I'm still trying to get my crazy WC system dialed in. Have just been isolating random mini Marbles in 125s and treating with Parasite tabs. They seem a lot better then they have been, appetite, activity, and color wise.

I should have mentioned that the marble I lost both spiracles where working but only one side of her back would raise and she had labored breathing. I am not sure if any of this helps but maybe some of the more advanced symptoms can help you nail down what it is.

i have lost 3 rays in 2012

i would go back and make a list of everything you have changed in the last year..
up your gph and add some more filtration.

when i first got into rays i got food poisoning and was in bed for a week and missed a water change..i just happened to get a bacteria bloom and i lost 3 rays.
It sucked so bad. i lost my very first ray..i loved that ray..a beautiful hystrix.....i almost walked away from rays because it hurt so much..
i decided after that i would filter my tanks to the limit...
i havnt lost an established ray since...

i do not and never have ran a UV..but the day i start seeing dents in a healthy ray is the day i buy one.

Look, this is a first for me....i have never heard or seen this before and i am kinda shocked...blown away to be honest.
i mean..when in the hell did this start happening? when was the first case of this?

Good luck Keepin'

I noticed about a week ago when lights came on he was REAL washed out looking, I blamed it on that day I fed the tank 2-3 times the day before and he ate alot! I just blamed it on how much he must have ate. I noticed a couple nights ago he was raising his lip a little while breathing and seemed rather heavy. During feeding last night, no Interest in food but breathing looked normal. This morning he ate pellets, no heavy breathing.
As far as change, nothing has changed at all, same fish, same filters, same drip and flow. Last winter I replaced my pump for my well, I keep going back to something with my well...
I'm real confused, I'm thinking it couldn't hurt to get a uv, so may try that, and I guess it wouldn't hurt to prazi the tank. When I lost my flower & hystrix, I moved them and they died quickly after that so I may just divide...
I've heard when u work on a well u should sterilize it, but did not do that because it is sterilized with chlorine (bleach) then rinsed out of lines.,, didn't want to risk with rays.
Maybe some type of bacteria in my water?

Hmm I wonder if the well water is an issue. Maybe add an hma type filter to the water coming in and go er the top with uv. Also use a quality dechlorinator, not to remove chlorine but for the binding of other nasties. I wonder if it is not a dent but other parts swollen to make the non swollen part look like a dent.

Add a bit of salt....It may just help if the ray is retaining water and should not harm.

I posted before marks post showed, I would bow down to his knowledge every time therefore see post above.

Do a complete water test using brand new test kits (not dip strips) maybe separate the sick fish? Please post up the water sample results.

Not sure what a water company can/will test for but I have read that when you replace well pumps, like I did dec2011, that you need to disinfect well by adding chlorine. Because of aerobic or anaerobic bacteria. I would assume that this bacteria gets worse
Overtime an possibly could be harmful?? I never did this after replacing well pump.
I'm reaching here :)
