Derekp's Pond Build Thread...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some non sideways updated pics. :D The pond is growing algae already like crazy and there is tons of bug larvae in it. Even though its only been a week of running I put my goldfish in there since the other stuff is surviving. I am going to wait another week or so to put my koi and channel cats in it.

Looking good, just watch out for spikes when adding the new fish.

Its 13,000 gallons. I only have about 30 fish. lol I don't think it will be anything noticeable. ;)

Im not done. Im going to add a pump for surface skimming and a pump to act as a bottom drain. Im also going to build a bog filter out of landscape timbers that will have pipe placed into the bottom to leak water through the gravel. Once it flows through it is going to flow out over a waterfall. The waterfall area is the square shallow area that I built on the back right.

nice going!
About the koi breeding, I see that you said you have a 700G tank, do you still have it? you should breed the koi and grow the fry in there!

Thanks.

No way. They would only be feeders in there. lol Well I think what im going to do is build a little pond up near the house with a waterfall and a stream that goes to the big pond between the pool and gazebo. That way I can use the little pond as a growout area. It will be a circular pond with about a 8 to 10 foot diameter and a few feet deep. The stream will be about 2 foot wide and a few inches deep.

I meant you do the breeding in there not let them lay their eggs in there with other fish in the tank. But the small pond seem nicer!
