Design a ray trap

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats a good point. i dont think a ray would swim eyes toward the glass. But in my head i was picturing it teeter-totting over the edge and going down belly facing the ledge. But again, i think a small ray would be more likely to do this depending on how large that ledge and channel is for a trap. If the channel is large enough to catch a bigger ray, i dont think a small ray would get that same feeling causing it not to go out that a big ray would, just because of dimensions.

take into account the direction of flow too .

they will be more reluctant to swim downstream like that. but will be willing to swim upstream as its more natural .

;more of a guess but most fish are happier swimming upstream

i would build it and try it as its a very simple design . but i dont want to put the stuff in my tank lol

PVC FRAME, wire mesh, with a 45Deg opening on either one end or both, both is pictured in the design, this will let the ray swim in but once it is in, it will have trouble getting out because of the angle of it (crab trap/ minnow trap idea) angle and and mesh can be attached using zip ties, easy to connect and cheap. Video to follow once youtube isnt being stupid

Here is the video showing it a little better, I took out the sides to show the angle of the entrence.

Wow!
TB85, nice!

Reservations....:
all that metal...rays are often sensitive to electrical fields that might be induced in contact with the water.
All that PVC....neat but very bulky and a bit spendy for your average Amazonian.
I think what is needed is a good front door design that can be attached to a basic rough-made frame of wire ( such as old coathangers) supporting a fishnet bag arrangement, stuff that can be easily found and jerry-rigged onsite by the simplest fisherman .
Keep up the good work guys
:)

Nice turkey....
