but why is it with all the times I have asked the ? of whether or not that bump is a natural or man bred thing people never answer the ?

I can appreciate the beauty in the flowerhorn but that bump just looks totally unnatural to me.

ok the 'bump' known as the kok is natural and is a fat storage device
the more fat the flowerhorn stores in its kok the bigger its kok grows

so then the FH in your pick is overfed then? just wondering.
id actually pay twice the price for a flowerhorn WITHOUT that tumor. its a really nice fish...

but flowerhorn isn't a good name for it... should be flowerbag cichlid (Amphibilous Quazimodos)

ahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahhaha:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

now that was funny

I will have an update on this thread after this weekend about to drop in the other two gars as they are just about the right size to eat with the big boys.

I was there tonight doin wc and the one knife fish is getting very big, I think I have a male and female knife in this tank wouldn't that be funny if they spawned :naughty:

im just glad the musuem got you to care for their fish. im not sure if you already answered this, but how did you get the job?

Awesome job so far...

Just a suggestion, this tank would look great with a black background, the scene with the plants makes the tank look too busy imo...

they told me that they were working on painting a backdrop to match the surrounding displays, but, since I have carte blanche with the tank I think I will just take the initiative and pull off that one and put a black one on. The sides have actually been painted and there is like 1-2 inches clearance on either side to changing that color is not happening unless that tank was drained and pulled.

So I thought it was time to do a pictoral update.

First Jennifer has put on almost 2.5 inches since I took over the tank and the tear in her tail fin has almost healed completely.

The 2 niger cats just were not really doing anything for the tank except hiding all the time only coming out when no one was watching, so I decided to pull them and replace them with 4 upsidedown cats.

The 2 knife fish are doing well, and I think they are a male and female since one is much bigger than the other, the smaller of the two hides lots so i could not get its pict, but, here is the bigger one about 11 inch

The 2 growout gars are now about 7-8 and 9-10 inches and are about a week or so away from me putting them in the main tank. I also took the 2 ornate bichirs to the fish room so that they can have an easy time growing out to get the right size for living in the main tank

Plants seem to be a real pain to get ahold of, I tried some surface plants but all they did was get totally sucked under and stuck to the filter intake. The museum people wanted some more greenery in the tank, and asked if I could place some false in lieu of real. So I redid the layout of the driftwood and wrapped some fake plants around the floating wood. So the tank looks like this now. I am actually thinking of taking out the floating wood and just using the glass brace as an achor point for fake plants will see how it goes.

Now with the 2 dinosaurs that are displayed just before the tank, both have a form of tiger stripping to them. So I came up with the idea to drop in my tiger shovelnose just to add a bit of flash of color and movement. When the time comes that this tank is not good enough I have a nice home for him in my 300g 10ft.

Aside note I did find some really nice plants last night that I have to go back to look at to see if they will grow in a low light none c02 tank
