Diablo red arowana sick

I wish that I could give you some kind of definitive answer, but unfortunately that's only going to come from a vet, and only if they take a sample & put it under a microscope.

Generally when a fish refuses to eat, and begins to shed its intestinal lining, it's indicative of internal parasites. But at this stage of the game I have no idea if that is the problem with your aro, or if sometihng else is going on? Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

I dont know what to do. should i also treat for parasites? Seachem has a product that can be used with kanaplex for parasites. im lost

Im thinking of switching the meds to Sulfathiazole. Super frustrated

Stay the course, when these meds are finished perform water changes, keep the water quality pristine, and allow the fish to heal itself. Do not start using a shotgun approach with meds, it can cause far more harm than good.

As far as treating for parasites, that's what the 3% epsom salt solution soaked food was for.

His vent has returned to how it was 2 days ago. Not as swollen and not as red. He knows when its feeding time because i start removing the lid weights. He cam right over and took a large epsom salt filled earthworm. He had a lil trouble getting it down but he managed to. He didnt want anymore though. I think today is the last epsom salt day. I will go back to normal food and see if the epsoms helped. I may give him a young cricket today. Is this a bad idea?

RD i read the links they were useful. It seems like they feel there is a strong realtion between temp and diffrent stages of the parasites life. They also strongly hint at a relationship between the outbreaks and nitrate levels in the river. But there is no hard proof yet. I hope the epsoms was as effective on my fish as it was the trout.
These parasites seem to cause lack of appetite and slow growth. Th rays more or less have always eaten every morsal of food put in the tank. Except for a small hunger strike by my female in the first month of me owning her. And for laticeps they seem to be ahead of the curve on the growing scale. Already approaching 8 inches in the first 6 to 7 months of their life. This problem i have is all over the place. I cannot pinpoint it. the tank is barebottom empty so toxic substrate or ornaments are out. No spraying of chemicals in the living room and no smokers in the house. I even have a uv air sterlizing unit in the same room as the tank. Just to rule out bad air. My tap water tests well but i only ever tested the 4 basic parameters. Im not lazy and i enjoy being the mechanical part of my filtration. My tanks have never went more than 4 to 5 days without a wc. Usually a daily tiny one to get the poop out.I try to never put my arms in the tank and when i have to i rinse my arms many times before i even attempt this. Is there a place i can send my water that will analyze it?

I will stay the course on the treatment plan. SO no wcs till the treatment is over? Sould i extend the treatment for one dose? Bc the first dose had to deal with more epsoms in the water?

Crickets are a VERY bad idea. They are like crack to an aro & once they get the taste for them they may stop eating all other foods. Tomorrow go back to tilapia etc & hopefully he comes around over the next several days.

I would follow the info on the Kanaplex container, then wait & see what happens. Beyond that I'm afraid I can't help much.

I was watching the aro and he kept doing his hungry dance. So i tried a test. I took out two large earth worms. Cut each in 3 pieces. Injected 3 pieces with epsom salt solution. Left the other 3 plain. The aro ate all 3 without epsoms and let the rays eat the 3 injected with the solution. Smart lil bugger. All he had to do was approach the worms with epsoms and he knew which were which. So at least his appetite is still there.

Okay my tests are showing trace amounts of ammonia. Less than .25. I am supposed to dose again tonight. Should i do a large wc before i dose to lower the ammonia? Even though the directions do not say to change water?

you should feed him a staple formula, 2 different kinds of food all day every day is not nutritious at all.

don't feed market prawns at all. feed him only freshwater related items like tilapia, guppies, insects like crickets, mealworms, earthworms, and even aro pellets.
