That is great news.

I'm always skeptical that fishes that originate from other countries are poisoned from wild waters. The temptation for an easy buck is just so strong. If a market came about for native sturgeon I'll bet such taking would happen here too.

I envy your fish kntrygrl4lyfe and wish you the very best. Please keep us updated. I'm fond of sturgeon with the time I've had with them in the wild.
 
I never heard of a Dimond Sturgeon, what is its scientific name?

Is it a Sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus)?

The only other foren Sturgeons I know of are:

Siberian Sturgeon (Acipenser baeri)
Russian Sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii)
Adriatic Sturgeon (Acipenser naccarii)
Ship Sturgeon (Acipenser nudiventris)
Stellate Sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus)
Atlantic Sturgeon (Acipenser sturio)
Beluga Sturgeon (Huso huso)

All sturgeon are from the Northern Hemisfear, but it would depend on pond deapth and O2 levels. Be sure they could not escape into the wild. :)

Fairly interested about getting one of these, a bit down the road though. Can you link me to your provider in florida? If anything, it'd be fun to look through some of his other stock.
 
At that size i fed twice a day 2-3 cubes of bloodworms and or brineshimp mix there stomachs are small and they are always willing to eat if kept in good conditions they will grow quickly, Try to maintain a temp of 55-58 degrees F. Provide lots of water circulation an O2 test kit from tetra can be helpful also. At that size I kept mine in a 70 gallon aquarium to ensure they were doing well with no problems at all. My diamonds are now over a foot long in just a few months they are eating shrimp and earthworms and will except food from your hand at the pond surface definitly one of the coolest and most challenging fish keep. Still looking for a good high protein pellet though tried to buy from Grahm he is the owner of the website listed above but they don't ship to the U.S.
 
You'll find a lot of aquacultured sturgeon around are actually hybrids...Many cross bred with A. ruthenus due to the higher temp tolerence. Baeri x gueldenstaedtii hybrids are fairly common too.
