Sorry boys, but you're wrong. Cich urophthalmus comes from Mexico, Guatamala, and Honduras (and are farm raised in Florida, and are sadly often sold as Festae, or red terrors.

The fish Terry bought was directly imported from Ecuador, by me. And that is a hell of a far swim from Central America.

The fish is a wild female Cichlasoma festae (sub adult), and I will bet the ranch on it.

WOW.

And all these guys thought they had it...

Good to see he didn't get taken.

I told MR. G I would keep it cause I know his knowledge is better then the average person on this site but after getting the red terror from John today and seeing the diffence in the two fish I'm kinda feeling that it a Mayan for sure I as sold. Reguardless Shark Aquarium is still on the top of my list far as best LFS's

I have 6 wild true festae right now. i am currently working on pairs. they are only three inches at the moment. if your patient once mine mature and or pair which will be within the next 2-3 months i could hook you up:)

Because it is a Mayan :D

You should post up some pics of your new "red terror"!

The fish posted on the first page looks just like my old urophthalmus (Mayan)

I want to take that guy up on the bet that its a festae. Thats a mayan, and thats a mayan for sure. Its a good example of why you should never just look for the y-bar. It is a red terror, just not a festae.
