Damn sad responses here IMO-

Call george-He is a stand up guy-Tell him about the mix up and provide pics of the fish-
I'm sure he would send you the right fish......And own up to his mistake.....

And to the person who called george a POS must not know him nor deal with him....

I don't think there was a mistake. He bought it as a Red Terror. Every lfs here in town labels Mayans as Red Terrors. Honestly I don't think I've ever seen Festae labeled as Red Terrors, they're always labeled as "True Festae!".

I saw festae labeled as mayan's a couple weeks ago. Terrible photo, sorry.

Sorry, Festaes have been referred to as Red Terrors as long as theyve been in the hobby, not Mayans (the same way "convicts" are referring to nigrofasciata, the same way "green terror" refers to Aequidens Rivulatus, not an Umbee). They are mistakingly referred to as red terrors by inexperienced fishkeepers, sellers, and apparently, people on fish forums. Just look around and read here. Mayans arent called red terrors on MFK as are they?

By your account, if 5 local pet stores called festaes "Ronald McDonald Fish" because they are red and gold, then we would have to call them that too, wouldnt we? Because then they would be commonly referred to as "Ronald McDonald Fish". Also by your account, we could call Red Devils Red Terrors.

When you argue the point that Mayans are called Red Terrors technically, you add to the problem...TECHNICALLY.

When I argue that I am stating a fact. Im not saying its right, but it happens.

And Green Terror also refers to the Gold saum, but we dont call them FALSE green terrors all the time. The FACT that lfs frequently call Mayans Red Terrors is something that is inarguable, because it happens. People shouldnt be relying on common names to get their fish, and this forum helps people distinguish between different species of fish. Getting all fussy about common names isnt gonna teach anyone anything.

Cichlid Fiend... have you contacted the seller to discuss the situation?

If so, what was his response... if not quit slackin and contact him :P

PS - Common names are not technical in any way... they are fine when talking to your friends about your fish... but when making a purchase, scientific / proper names are needed. A seller who cannot provide scientific / proper names should not be expected to supply proper fish...

That is why people should be more picky on who/whom they do business with. Reputable breeders like Rapps for example are good folks to but cichlids from-in otherwords you get what you order. I know it is costly but in the long run it makes sense-my friends think I am crazy cause I pay quite a bit for my fish-but I know a year or two from now when I have kick a-- specimens I know it will be worth it.
BTW-if the fish labeled as Red Terror doesn't have the name Festae by it-it is more than likely a Uro-or Mayan cichlid.

so you live in NJ and spent $60 on that, when Jeff Rapps just had the real deal in for like $25, huh

I agree with most of what is said here. However I would expect anyone knowledgeable of fish (especially a vendor on MFK) to label the cichlid as what it really is. If they know it's a Uro label it as Mayan, if it's a Festae label it as True Red Terror.

Did you discus scientific names or see a picture of it before you purchased it?

Im waiting to hear back from goerge but this isnt going to stop me from buying from him cause his store is the best i have ever seen. Plus i just finished paying for my "true red terror female " on paypal and it will be here on Saturday!!!!!!!!!
