From my understanding after we dissected some 1 year plus asia aro, the female can start producing eggs as young as 1 year plus. But not ready for breeding though. They usually will continue to produce eggs, and then re-absorb them back and that's why some of the female refuse food for a period of time. Bigger female refuse food even longer compared to some smaller one. My 6 year old red ever go on a fasting mode for 8 months with just a single bullfrog.

I will advise if you know that your fish is a female and she's in fasting mode, do not adjust the water parameters too fast and too much, some may just die from it. If they are in fasting mode, meaning they doesn't eat thus water condition is staying better longer. So weekly regular water change may not be neccessary. A minor water change is more than enough since nothing goes in and nothing comes out from her much.

As for how often, they are ever ready and you can say they are egg making machine.:D Just a matter of having better formed eggs in them or still developing.

Aren't we lucky to have Koji here with his expertise on arowanas?:D

very lucky and fortunate.... he is always a world of knowledge.

Also she is not fasting anymore since she had the eggs.,. her appetite is normal again.. 5 shrimps this am stuffed with arow pellets... very happy...

That is really cool. Of course as others have said it would awesome if there was a male to fertilize them, but I wonder how silver aro courtship is...it seems like they might need a lot of "elbow room" to produce viable spawn.
