Growing up as a kid in the beautiful state of florida I always imagined myself being a biologist when I was an adult. My father who was a big time fish keeper told me being an ichthyologist would be tough even in the state of florida. Losts of years of school for pay that is not that good. Well I thought what the hell does he know. That is until I saw the average pay for biologists ,put it this way plumbers make more than a person with a 4 years degree in biology. That set me straight real quick!lol..Anyway to make a long story short I sold out to the man and became a boring old Engineer . ..

So many of you gave up you gave up your dream for the sake of making more money? (also how many of you plan to do so)

And how many of you stuck with your dream and decided money doesnt matter ?

I go where the money it... I think that why after 15 years in the IT bussiess I'm burn out...

Well, I always wanted to be a doctor, and still plan to go to med school after my undergrad is finished. I thought about becoming an icthyologist for about 10 minutes, and then realized that I'd probably get sick of fishkeeping if all I did was do fin ray counts all day.

if my dad hadn't moved us out of washington state (grew up there to age 12), I might full well have been going to U. of Washington and going through their Fishery/Ichthyology field all the way to PHD, cuz I prolly could have gotten some reasonable scholarships and stuff and the in-state tuition was only 10 grand anyway. As it is we moved to El Paso, and I consider it too expensive to attend a state university out-of-state (there's no ich. potential in Texas).

So I'm joining Army ROTC. 2 years when I get out of it and college I figure I'll be out in Fallujah waiting for the next Jihad Joe to blow me up :P The money is ****ing good for someone who absolutely could not be an engineer and doesnt really care for molecular biology.

Or don't mix business with pleasure........... ;) both are somewhat true...........
It's hard.

I attend community college, and I gave up my dreams of being a world famous chef.
I won first in states and 3rd in national competition in high school for Culinary Arts.
I got accepted to the CIA in NY, but I didn't go for personal reasons.
I started working in a Pet Store, where I REFUSED TO WORK WITH THE FISH.
I HATED FISH!
Now fish are my life.
Now I'm ****ed, and taking general classes till I find out WTF I wanna do in life. :headshake

I am, in fact, a sell out.
