Looks like the format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray is coming to an end soon.
Yay for Blu-Ray! :headbang2

- Warner Bros. Entertainment to Release Its High-Definition DVD Titles Exclusively in the Blu-Ray Disc Format Beginning Later This Year

- Is New Line going Blu-ray exclusive, too?

- Paramount to return to Blu-Ray?

Wait! There's more!

I knew this was going to happen. Smart move by Microsoft since they made their HD DVD drive external.

- Microsoft's Xbox could consider Blu-ray support

Microsoft is one of the big backers of HD DVD with them jumping ship too, it wont be long now.

Yeah I heard about the paramount and warner bros. Paramount had some get out of clause or something. Good news for me!!!

same, same! :D
Don't have many blu rays yet... what'd be a good first few purchases?

Well Amazon.com has a buy 1 get 1 free promotion every now and then on Select Blu-Ray movies.

I don't have a HD TV yet but I bought them anyways since the price was good.

Got the Harry Potter 1-4, 300 and The Last Samurai

Good first purchase to get is PLANET EARTH. Don't have the BD version yet but I got the DVD for now.

TRANSFORMERS would be a good one.

that mean you need to upgrade you dvd collection into blue rays?

Not all. just the movies I really really like.

There are some movies I just can't live without the best version of it. a good example is Terminator 2.

I've owned that movie on:

VHS, Laser Disc, 2 versions on DVD (Regular and Extreme).

It's out on Blu-Ray now but only the thearatrical release version. I am waiting for teh directors cut to be released.

I know I'm nuts

no it just means your current dvd player will not play blue ray discs, so you will have to upgrade your player to one that will be compatible with both. it just means more money for us the consumer

I got the latest harry potter... my dad's got a 1080p tv so... I'm constantly on that when I am around my parents.

On planet earth, I said it would be the first blu ray I'd buy, and hadn't bought it on dvd because of it...
The UK version of it seems to have an extra disc than the US, but WTF it's in 1080i over here when you have a 1080p format. I'm waiting to see what unfolds 'cause wasn't happy with the bbc when I found out. They are still about 40 bucks a piece though blu ray, although think theres a buy 2 get one free offer at the moment... still a lot of money and can't help but restrict myself until blu ray becomes cheaper...
I was thinking about getting 300 as haven't seen it yet and prob. look quite good.

I've just been downloading all the 1080p trailers from the ps3 shop lol!
