no it just means your current dvd player will not play blue ray discs, so you will have to upgrade your player to one that will be compatible with both. it just means more money for us the consumer

Only if you want to do Hi-Def. I don't see DVDs going away anytime soon.

Blu-Ray players play regular DVDs as well.

Not all. just the movies I really really like.

There are some movies I just can't live without the best version of it. a good example is Terminator 2.

I've owned that movie on:

VHS, Laser Disc, 2 versions on DVD (Regular and Extreme).

It's out on Blu-Ray now but only the thearatrical release version. I am waiting for teh directors cut to be released.

I know I'm nuts
you got too much "movie $" to spare..

thats crazy news not long ago HD was doing so much better that it was looking like the end for blu ray.Be interesting to see what happens...

When was this? They were going down from the get go. That's why they went to bribe Paramount $150 Million late last year to do HD DVD Exclusive. Looks like that $150M was just a waste of money since Paramount had an escape clause that they can ditch HD DVD if WB goes Blu-Ray.

Toshiba and Universal aren't giving up that easy. Paramount won't flip that easily either.

Also, hd is still a niche crowd with players and movies costing more than reg dvd's and upscaling players. Receivers are also high priced to get the hd sound benefit.

I could care less who wins, everything can be rented and copied

Hmmm online streaming eh? How does that work if you don't have an online connection? My guess is that it doesn't.

If you didn't read the article it says Blu-ray is winning, so how is Sony losing on ALL tech fronts?

beta vs vhs doesnt even apply anymore and PS3 only loses to 360 in the US.

no price drops from CES but a def helper in getting more BR to people. The HTiB with a br player from Panasonic. Full 1080p/24 and hd audio support. no known price or full specs but alot people love the simplicity and I'm sure walmart will get it's variation.

Online connection, cable, broadband DSL chances are if you don't have cable or the internet you probably can't afford a Blue ray player either..

Low PS3 Sales May Cause Massive Sony Financial Loss
This Bloomberg.com story reports that analysts are predicting massive financial losses for Sony for its last fiancial quarter, due in part to low sales of its Playstation 3 console. The analysts are now predicting a net quarterly loss of $630 million and Sony's game division is expected to be a large part of that loss, which would offset profits in Sony's other divisions.
