Difference between motaguenese and rtm

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So far they have been pretty good for me, I lost a rotkiel in transit because the mail sucks by me. Anything else I lost from them has been from my own stupid mistakes. There’s better vendors but bluegrass is dirt cheap.

Yes that was my experience, some fish DOA, poorly packed, and they would not reimburse me for the lost fish. Unacceptable when there's many other vendors more reliable out there IMO.

I’m assuming that they are separating the nicest from the dullest when young and pricing accordingly. The pics of individuals tend to be species pics and not the individuals.

Sorry to hear. They reimbursed me for the severum if I remember correctly. Maybe they got better over the years.

Thanks for the site and the help!
I’m not in the market to order at the moment, I just like to browse websites to see if there is anything eye catching. Saw the motas and got confused.
I would totally buy one, but I like my current cichlids too much to just kill them...

Gotcha. Yeah I do a lot of online fish window shopping too. As far as identification i distrust most fanciful names vendors place on fish, and generally only trust distinction by scientific name. I've seen the same fish called several different names depending on vendor, and the same name applied to different types of fish as well.

Red tiger motaguense is a color type/location variant, there was a gold type avail years ago, both types are wild type fish maybe the red tiger strain now is being linebred? the gold type I would kill for, the red tiger is too colorful for me as a parachromis haha

Just as with every cichlid, there are location variants, a group from one river can be a vastly different color than one from another river, depending on topography of the river (i.ecolor of substrate, turbidity, rocks or lack thereof, plants).
I have had both morphs. There is a more generically colored morph, and the red morph.
And even within the red morph there are variations, including the females being more red than males.
The first group I had, had little to no red, the 2nd had lots of red.
I didn't have a camera or know how to use one, for the 1st group (back in the 80s) although it is possible they were some other species of Parachromis (multifasciatus, freidrichstalliii).
Here are a couple shots of the 2nd group.

It is not unusual to have different color variations of any cichlid, below 2 types of Chuco intermedium I had

the one above is from a different river than the one below
