Hi everyone, I'm going to try a Cichla again, had one ass a kid with a baby arowana. That didn't end well, came home from school with the bones of the arowana floating, it was about 7-8 inches and the ocellaris was about 2-3. Well, any who I'm wanting another one and can't decide on which one, back the ocellaris was the only kind available. Do they have different personalities, I know that each one is an individual, but in general? Also growth rate is also needed. I know that this has probably been asked in a different forum, so please excuse me. Thanks guys.

Kelberi might be a good one to try out, they don't get to big relative to other pbass and all the ones I've kept were pretty docile. Not to mention they're gorgeous fish. Orinos or azuls might be options also. One to stay away from would be temensis which get the biggest and in my experience are the nastiest and ugliest.

LOL Thanks Tim, any word on the various growth rates, or are they all about the same?

I don't think they're much different but its been a long time since I grew out pbass so maybe someone else can comment.

From what I read on these forums a lot of people here plus myself find orino’s to be quite aggressive but not all.do you plan on keeping the pb with anything.

Thanks Rich, I was planning on keeping them in a well planted community. Here's the list, not written in stone, but so far. Cichla, red pike, indo dat, ornate bichir, Gibby pleco, gold saum, ctenopoma & a school of mollies. My mom gave me a large, 5', piece of driftwood that I fan wait to use.

Not to sure about plants I haven’t seen many cichla tanks that are heavily planted not sure if it’s because they up root them like other cichlids or just knock them about with their speed when they’re eating. Haven’t had much experience with planted aquariums and pbass so perhaps others could give better advice also some of those fish sound like Adult cichla food.keep us updated tho.

Thanks Ric, which one's done you think would work? Like I said, nothing is written in stone. I know that the molly's will be food but hopefully, with enoth hiding places they can keep replenishing and the others will have a steady supply of love food to supplement the prepared diet.I figured that they all get around the same size, some even grow slowly that it should be OK, but I am asking you guys for advice because I value your experiences. I was also considering some wild caught angels.

I think the red pike and gold saum could work but might have some territory battles
Indo dat, plec and birchir all sound ok all depends on sizes.
But I think ctenopoma and mollies would be grub and I don’t think they would get a chance to replenish.
Also not to sure about angels I know they come from the same waters but I still think they would become food I suppose it depends how big your bass become. Perhaps someone with more experience will give they’re opinion and advice soon as out of all those fish I’ve only kept datnoids with mine and they got along fine. I really like those red pike cichlids mind.
