Difficulty Acquiring Fish at Good Prices

I think your perception of pricing is just unexpectedly low.

You got a smoking deal on the motoro. To find another one like that you might have to wait a while. Unless someone really has to dump the thing, most people wait to get the best bang for their buck.

I go to Toronto (from London) probably once a month to look at fish and buy stuff. I have a solid list of about 6 stores I make a point to see when I am up there each time I go. Everything from Asian arowanas to pbass, and all sorts of rays.

This is an inherently expensive hobby to be in. Get your wallet ready, or keep waiting for deals to pop up.

London is terrible for monster fish. Other than fish that others are wanting to get rid of.

I just sold all my stock and am starting over again.

Go to the gta for your fish. London has nothing and the LFS are jokes. All of them. The $600 ray you saw if its what I was thinking was a flower ray. I get all my fish from gta and the most I've paid for an 8" disc Motoro was $80. Peacock bass are also everywhere in gta. You need to leave London and shop around. For the $40 it will cost in gas, you can hand pick your fish rather than ship.if you can't find something in one of the 10 stores out there then you're not looking good enough.

Dundas strip in mississauga. Theres like 4 lfs' within 10 minutes of each other. Discount dragons aquarium in mississauga is the best for moster fish imo.

I just wanted to know if its just me having difficulty finding great fish at a decent price? I am from London Ontario and I just went down to the LFS to see what they have in stock and the only fish I would remotely be interested in was a 11 inch Male Motoro that had a tag of $600. WTF? Then I call big als to see if I can order peacock bass and they tell me that its very rare to find this fish at any LFS, and my best bet would be kijiji or online. Thus my adventure online began, and I found a great price on a 6 inch Motoro for 125$. But by the time they ship to Canada and all the extra hidden across boarder fees were included, the price would sky-rockets back up to $500. I have gone to countless websites (online stores) and adds that offer shipping and great prices, but just to be disappointed with American only shipping (free at that). There must be an easier solution to all this, or do all Canadians who like monster fish just have it bad and are forced to pay outrageous fees? Does anybody else have similar issues or experiences, or am I being unrealistic :irked:? For all I know it could just be my area, any thoughts?

Well you know why that Ray was $600.00 that fish store had to ship it in too at the same cost you encountered.
There are people who breed them maybe you can find someone in Canada breeding them would get you a better price.
