A lot of bichirs mine included like the heater as a perching spot. Normal stuff. Although mine has moved up to the eheim spray bar as his favorite perching spot :)

With ease. You would be surprised. Also as far as algae eaters not only are they not the best tank mates mine has managed to get frustrated enough with them to eat them seemingly regardless of their size. This can pose a danger if they get lodged in their throat by the plecos dorsal fin.
 
What size tank is all this in? What species of knife?
 
bichirs arent agressive,you should just worry of alge eater,plecos
 
today was the first day i saw it eat, it loves beefheart thats for sure, and it seems ok now just getting used to things, and the knife is a brown featherfin but today i got a baby clown for $9.50; couldnt help myself but im sad to say that those were the last two fish that I am going to buy for a long time, I don't want to OS my tank
