I switched to 75% sand, 25% finely crushed coral. It's so much easier to maintain. I tried bare bottom in between substrates but I don't particularly like the look. The sand/ coral is also easier for the frontosa to graze from.

i dont use gravel because of the gunk that gets stuck in it
