It's BBCs program not Discovery. ;)

It's on the Discovery Channel and was produced by both the Discovery Channel and the BBC.

I wasen't pleased with the freshwater episode. Not enough fish. Fish should have taken up at least half of the documentary but they instead focused on crocs, otters, dophins etc. Seriously, I think the episode on caves had more fish then the freshwater episode. Overall though Planet Earth may be the best nature documentary I have ever seen.

Yeah I have actually. I can't remember the name of the program.... possibly "Wild Discovery" a show that used to run on the discovery channel about wildlife from different parts of the world.

The show I'm talking about though, showed arrowanas (big ones) jumping out of the water to eat black beetles on a branch overhead. Oh, and cardinal tetras being picked off by a king fisher lol

The documentary you're thinking of is "Secrets of the Golden River". It was part of ABC's World of Discovery series.

Discovery Channel have a SIMILAR program that is still running. It used to be on all the time about 20 years ago, then weekends during the mid-90s and now early morning at about 4 or 5 am.

However it was just a an hour-long program block that was desginated for wildlife documentries. If the one you're talking about is a series, then it is most likely what sandtiger said: "Secrets of the Golden River."

i love that series.
im definitley getting the enitre set.

For all those who were looking for this:

Fresh Water

"Broadcast 19 March 2006, this programme describes the course taken by rivers and some of the species that take advantage of such a habitat. Only 3% of the world's water is fresh, yet all life is ultimately dependent on it. Its journey begins as a stream in the mountains, illustrated by Venezuela's Tepui, where there is a tropical downpour almost every day. It then travels hundreds of miles before forming rapids. With the aid of some expansive helicopter photography, one sequence demonstrates the vastness of Angel Falls, the world's highest free-flowing waterfall. Its waters drop unbroken for nearly 1,000 metres and are blown away as a mist before they reach the bottom. The erosive nature of rivers is shown by the Grand Canyon, created over five million years by the Colorado River. In Japan, the water is inhabited by the biggest amphibian, the two-metre long giant salamander, while in the northern hemisphere, salmon undertake the largest freshwater migration, and are hunted en route by grizzly bears. Also featured are smooth-coated otters repelling mugger crocodiles and the latter's Nile cousin ambushing wildebeest as they cross the Mara River. Roseate spoonbills are numerous in the Pantanal and are prey to spectacled caiman. In addition, there are cichlids, piranhas, river dolphins and swimming crab-eating macaques. Planet Earth Diaries shows how a camera crew filmed a piranha feeding frenzy in Brazil — after a two-week search for the opportunity."

This series was unbelievable. I enjoyed watching this morning then any drama or show on tv. Since they were covering the whole earth they really couldn't include a lot but the stuff they showed was AWESOME!!!

I loved the freshwater episode...shallow seas, and caves the best. all though they were all great.

I'm hoping the DVD series has TONS of extra footage.

The breeding habbits of the africans was unreal! if those things they built were 6' wide they must have been 10' tall unbelievable!!!!
