Definitely personal opinion as to the best looking discus. Do the research and make sure you do the water changes. You will be rewarded with healthy discus.

Good luck!

yeah, ive been trying to google discus and only found a few good sites.

nope bderick, i still have to do that, test my water for any problems. Ill back to you on that.

7-8! juvies? damn! I thought they need more space than that since they kinda get big and round dont they?

Isnt their max growth size 8 inches?

Rule of thumb when starting with discus is 1 fish per 10 gallons. So a 55 will house 6 discus easily. You can most certainly house many more in the same size tank, but your daily regimine would change a lot (more work).

Discus like Blue Diamonds, Cobalts, Pigeon Bloods, Red Turquoise, Marlboro reds, etc....those are all common and can be found at 2.5-3" for $15-$25, depending on source and overall quality. More exotic/newer color types include Leopard Snakeskins, Albinos, Calicos, Golden Leopard Snakeskins, Leopards, etc are going to be considerably more...anywhere from $35-$100+++. It just really depends on the source, color type and overall quality.

Check these 2 discus specific forums for a TON of info:

www.simplydiscus.com/forum

Between those 2 site you will have all the info you will ever need.

Richard, check out centralohiodiscus.com....The guy's name is Mike. You can see some of his fish on aquabid.com. He goes by the seller name "Codiscus". His fish are extremely hardy. I bought nine from him the first week of January. None have died, and they are growing like weeds. My two brother in laws went with me and they brought home a total of 11. Also, no deaths. He sells great discus, and they are priced great.

i personally like the wild caught varieties or at least the one's that havent been bred differently!:D

me too. they are usually called brown, green or wild type discus.
they are all the same species,. so it technically isn't inter breeding. it's the same as all the different kinds of betts. people selectivly bred them to look more like what they wanted.

Even though i've only seen a couple of these, Red Eagle discus are nice.

Then there is Blue Colbat's.
