Stunning
Stendkers don't come close

Try Chen's Discus
I've tried every where pal but know one wants to know, everyone has real nice fish but i want something special but when I say that I don't think it's coming across to well but I'm not trying to offend anyone just want a real show quality pair.

I have to agree with Y Yoda1 if you want really show stopping discus, look into some of the Asian bred fish. I happen to have a lot of stendker discus from hans, too much variation. I have 10 checkerboards and only one actually looks like a true checkerboard. So it cost me $900 to get that one good fish!! The others look like regular pigeon bloods at best. Check out Tony Tan discus. They are the best in my opinion. Seem to be less variations. Stendker discus are WAY overrated. I have 19 stendkers currently, and over 30 various Asian bred discus. The Asians are superior hands down. Better colors, growth, and fewer losses. For the ridiculous prices we pay for discus, should be much higher standards than what we see. I've gotten some really crap fish from hans that make me say WTF? After losing an entire batch of stendker blue diamonds for no apparent reason, I've come to the conclusion that I'm an idiot to keep buying stenker discus. It was strange, out of the same order of CB, r turqs, and b diamonds, only the b diamonds died.

Well you seem to have it all under control, so why ask?
Just trying to help

Yup, I agree.
I had Stendkers. They were sold to me mainly on the basis that they would be tougher in tap water than Asian fish.
They were fine until my filter leaked, and in a rush I had to refill half the tank with unheated water. They got sick. Prob the same as Asians would. So, not convinced about that one.

And the Stendker colour range is limited. Only a handful of old fashioned colours.

The plus side of them though is they grew to a big size quickly.

I've actually seen much faster growth from some of the Asian discus I have. I have fish purchased at roughly the same time and the Asian discus are now 2 times the size of the stendkers. I agree, not a big variety to choose from, just the old strains. Hate to bash stendkers, a lot of people like them, it's just my personal experience. I have a friend who has had no luck with Asian discus, and loves his stendkers!

You might be experiencing the shops being used to dealing with customers that want great discus at rock bottom prices. If you are seeking some fantastic discus, I hope you are willing to put up the money to get them. You will have to outcompete the main discus hobbiests, who I have seen go for discus priced near the $1000 range with no sweat.

If you really want some very nice discus then I think you should join SimplyDiscus and talk to some of the people over there. They know their stuff when it comes to healthy good looking discus.

Ain't that the truth!! The other option is to do what I do, but dozens of discus and sort them out to get a couple show stoppers. It takes a lot of time and effort. Discus really change as they mature, you have to grow them out for a year or two to see what you really have. I sell off the ones that aren't up to my standards.

;) Well 'Lukemitchell' as you can see opinions vary & one persons passion is another ones poison. I'm far from the expert that some of these folks are & I've only been somewhat successful w/ Stendkers. ( http://diskuszucht-stendker.de/en/Haendler/Haendler_Ausland/ ) In all the years I've known him, my guy Hans hasn't steered me wrong. Again that's just me.

Good luck w/ your search. "T"
