discus spawing question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
she seems to be taking all the ones that hatch in her mouth but i have not seen her actually move them some were.

she has cleaned all the wrigglers and shells off the nest site. i have no idea if she ate them or moved them. time will tell. i can't see them anywere. this may just be their second spawn and she just ate them. i find it odd if she did eat them she was very good up till this point. hey they did hatch and were lively untill she took them. i saw the tails pop out right before my eyes.

What is the type of discus called ? How big are the discus and how much would it be for the babies . Just curious :)

they look like turquoise and they are very large. about 7" fro nose to tail for the male and 5.5" from nose to tail on the female. no idea on prices.

Sometimes it takes them a few times to spawn before they keep them and once they hatch use caution when approching the aquariunm if you scare them in any way they may eat the fry. It is good that they hatched meens they are a pair and will breed, you will get fry one day, and they are very good at hidding the fry. They should keep the fry off the bottom not a good place for the fry to be. When I spawn mine I use a bare bottom hatching tank and use fresh water to maintain not the water from the main tank. The main tank has beneficial bacteria in it and that bacteria can destroy fry. I have had that happen and lost the hatch, that will only happen if the fry get to the bottom and remain there for a while. The male large discus in my avatar picture is a large Red Turquois and the female is a royal Blue discus and are a great breeding pair.

ok, thanks.

i think these may be a pair of the "red turquois" then since they match yours perfictly. my male doesn't have the heavy striping in the center of his body, but the edges are striped. my female has full stripes. i'll try for a few more pics of them. they are already doing the twitching again.

all hope of geting an spawns is gone. my male got stuck behind my sponge filter and died. just adding to all the crap happening to me.
