Really? Define "Whole Lives"? I have 6 Discus that have outgrown a 90 gal tank?

Skip the 55 too narrow, min would be a 75 for me which can be picked up on craigs list ,pumps and stands for under 200.00

75 Gallon. 48x24x24

Whole lives means just what it says. 6 discus do not get large enough to out grow a standard 90 gal. Discus only reach about 8" max. and are not big swimmers. Use water changes to maintain water quality. A 75 gal. is a good tank for discus with it's 18" width. I used a 55gal. in this project because of it's low cost. By the way, a 48"x 24"x 24" tank holds approximately 120 gals.

Ive have personally seen discus bigger than 8". and a 55g will house them for now but when they are full grown 6 full sized discus willl not be happy in that condiditon and 55 are awful for discus because they want more width like you said. Begginers dont try this at home! Just wait that tank will get worse as time progresses. Cut corners for now ok but in the long run your setting up for a disaster. Ive had 6 full sized discus in a 150g fully planted and it was just barley big enough for them. I usually double up on heaters in case of a malfunction, and it makes the heaters last longer for they arent working as hard. Discus for me is always saftey first though. You might be saving money now but down the road you might be loosing more than you want. good luck though, your fish are beautiful btw.

I love when people make outrageous statements with no proof to back it up. Do you realize an 8" discus is as big or bigger than a man's open hand? And you have seen fish that are bigger? Let's see the pictures of these world record "monsters". I'm sure anyone with record breaking fish like those would be all over TV and the Internet if word got out. Also, if you had 6 discus that didn't have swimming room in a planted 150 gal., then you needed to remove some plants from that overgrown jungle.

diddo on 82-84

deg. i had some "crypt melt" when i increased the temp to add the discus, but they came

back and everything else did fine. keep an eye on your fish at these elevated temps. when injecting

co2 at these higher temps the water doesnt have as much saturated oxygen, so if they start

gasping at the surface you will need to increase surface agitation.

Those fish are maxed out around 8" body length, not tail length. They are or were nice fish, I'll give you credit for that, even if your goal is to try to make me look stupid. I've seen these pictures before. Point is, this poster claims you can't keep 6 adults in a 55, and are crowded in a 150. Everyone knows Discus Hans uses 60 gal. tanks. :D

Billy, you know it's not my intention to make you look stupid.

95% of our tanks are 65 gallon and I put 12 to 15 adults in a tank BUT>>>BUT>>> we have big filter systems,

Hans

Thanks Hans, you are the man! The discus I had were from Hans that got bigger than 8". Not trying to make anyone look stuped either, just sharing what works and doesnt in my own opinion, thats why we post here. To learn and share.

Those aren't the Dimensions of a 75 gallon, that's a 120 gallon tank.
a 75 gallon tank's standard dimension is 48x18x20 If I'm not mistaken. I know it's 48 inches long, 18 inches wide. Not 100% positive about 20 inch height, but I'm like over 90%
