Discussion-Aspirations/Obligations in the Hobby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have loved and appreciated all animals from the time i could walk... all creatures big and small facinated me... and if i was really especially into them i could draw and doodle their picture all day... so it was only natural that when my husband wanted to get back into the fishkeeping hobby... i was excited to learn... he is really a great fishkeeper but not a great teacher..so I found MFK... and together our hobby grew into more tanks and bigger fish... never to late to learn a new hobby... and never to soon...:D

I've alway's loved fish. Had them since I was six. Started with a fantail goldfish in a bowl. After he croaked, I started keeping natives. Warmouths, bass, catfish, various small minnows, ect. Whish I knew what I was doing. Got a twenty for those, a ten for some white clouds. I got out of it some in Middle school, Didn't pick it up again till my junior year of college. Started with a ten, then a fifteen. Then a 55. Then another 55. Then a 2.5, 5, 10 hex, 20 long, 20 high, and two more 55. Then, the saltwater 37. Switched my twenty over to a reef. Kept clownfish, bred them, inundated the market around my area. Stopped getting fish, and tore down tanks as the occupants went naturally. Finally, was down to my reef, 2 55's and a ten. Then, the electricity went out, in winter, everything froze, except for the reef, cause I was heating that room with wood. Then, I went away for a week, when I got home, the timer on the reef (been functioning for 2 yrs) had froze on, and the tank had melted. I gave up, stayed out ecxept for a couple of native tanks, saltwater. Got rid of those, and now just have a 55 native with fish my 4 year old caught. I've got plenty of tanks, but their all empty!
For aspirations, I'm planning a large plywood tank now. 10'x4'x3'. Native fw, or native skate and ray tank.

i staryed because my coucins gave me 2 O's and i had to keep upgrading tanks
because of their growth then eventually i sneaked them into our neigbors koi pond and they were huge and they actually ate the little kois after that i got a 55g and a male GT but all i had in that tank was subtrate and filter

now my smallest tank is 75 g which would be a growout for my rbp's my other tanks right now doesnt have anythin on em coz our house is far from where i work and all i can get in our new place is a 75 g:cry:

but its by far the best aquascaped tank i setup not functional yet but will post pics soon when its up and running :naughty:

I must admit, MFK has helped me out a lot on my journey and I consider myself a better fish keeper for it since I joined. Know one will ever no everything but there is a good chance that someone here will fill in the blanks.
