Discussion on Temporary Tanks and Cichlid Stocking

What you want to post on a public forum and have a discussion but not have anyone disagree with you? I am sorry that I do not want to join your crusade to get people to first buy monster tanks and then stock with juvinille fish.

No, I want to have a discussion without someone calling me long winded and telling me how to post my comments.

Ive read this whole thread and to be completely honest I am not an experienced fish keeper. I am still new compared to most of you guys ive been a hobbyist for 2 years now. And Ive been almost every perosn you guys have described overstocked tank, then ask if i can add another cichlid, then just upgrading, then having a grow out tank, then the new guy who got a 300 gallon tank for $100 bucks that needs to reseal and replace a cracked top but has no clue how to do it(researching how to still) to now someone who can make the decision to not get a fish i really really want but cannot house properly since i know that i wont be able to get the right tank for them since i want more tanks for fish i already have.

And yes there are alot of people who will say ill upgrade and i am one of them and even though i have a good job that pays very well I am stil unable to get the size tanks i really want. Yes i went from a 20 gallon tank to a 300 in about a year but I think i am an exception since i am only 25 and dedicate alot of my time to fish instead of partying(got into to much trouble) there are alot of people who say Ill upgrade but dont realize the real costs associated with it and when it comes time to do so they realize they cant afford it or rather spend there money else where so they end up getting out of the hobby.

Its entirely up to the person who is looking for the advice if they will even take it. I took it unlike most people so what i do is try to learn new things about this hobby and have realized alot of stuff i have done wrong and corrected them just by reading alot of threads on this website. I am always thinking about what i can do to improve quality for my fish and not what other fish i can get. I also dont take advice from just anyone either I actually see how long theyve been on the board and how people agree or disagree with them to see if peopl are in align with the answer and search for other threads on the subject to see what is the correct answer. Not everyone will do that which means this is just a tempoary hobby for them thats all. Thought i should speak out for the new guys like me who just read thread and dont post very often like i do.


If a person really wont get a bigger tank they really arent a hobbyist in my opinion.


Is it really a temporary tank or are they just saying it so they can get advice cause they know they are overstocked and theyll be told to get rid of there 15 othe cichlids and can just keep one oscar in his 55?

Well BadAzz spent the first week hiding. Then proceed to terrorize the G. Danios for awhile. Killed off the 2 Cons and a Pim Cat.
Forced me to put the female Loisellei in the 55. At least he left the Female Sal alone because she hid inside a resin branch alot. Killed a 6" RD
Eventually it was him the 7 Danios and a Pleco we had for years. When he murdered the Pleco "WE SHOT HIM" Nah gave him to someone at work who no longer talks to us. Not to mention all the airlines and filter tubes and the thermometer and decor... well you get the point

All this between 2" and 8" about 12 years ago when we first got the 125.

Man, that's a train wreck!!! I laughed when I read the "no longer talks to us" part.

One of the main reasons I got it to this hobby, was not only (in the 1970's) the ADD thing (Yeah too much sugar my azz) It relaxes the hyper rooster in me.......Plus as I have said to Repair, many times, my wife figures if Im not spending it (the $$) on booze or strippers, she is cool with that.......Better than the alternative!!!
