i realize what your saying there. but it just seemed insensible to me that they were fed a koi and not a feeder. feeders arent meant to live long. koi are meant to be a majestic fish in a pond. its almost like feeding an oscar to a piranha.

feeder goldfish, rosies, guppies, arowanas, cichlids, koi, catfish ect ect

they can all be feeders... depending on what you are putting them in with.

just because something cost more doesn't mean it has a greater right to live.

I can understand why some peopel could get upset with live feeding videos like this. but i have never understood the arguement "those weren't meant to be feeders!"

It doesn't matter that they are carnivorous!! There are so many other options, that was absolutely cruel and sadistic!!
I hate when people use live feeders - and especially when they do it for their own entertainment, with the fish's nutritional needs second (if even).

Just because in the wild they eat like this, does not mean it needs to be recreated in captivity for the sake of entertainment! In the wild, there is a balance to everything, and these animals work to keep that balance. They target sick, wounded and dying animals, or ones which are weaker and slower than the rest. Yes they are aggressive, but they are opportunistic and do not just attack anything. That's absolutely BS to justify this video by saying that they eat live prey in the wild. That is day and night from their role in the wild. That was just sick!:irked:

im glad someone agrees with me. im just upset that it was a perfectly nice koi.

piranhas, piranha, pirhana, pirana. They are the most ferocious fish in the world. Even the most formidable fish, the sharks or the barracudas, usually attack things smaller than themselves. But the piranhas habitually attack things much larger than themselves. They will snap a finger off a hand incautiously trailed in the water. The blood in the water excites them to madness.

These are my 10 piranhas feeding on koi fish...razor teeth water pitbulls attacking

Sounds like the video poster is one of those misinformed "thinks he has vicious man eating fish" in his tank. If that were in the wild, that koi would have gotten away. They weren't going after it until it was bitten once, then unable to get away.

Idiot. He's the one who's making people think these are horrible fish....

I've seen the same kinds of things and some videos annoy me, some don't. The ones that annoy me involve feeding baby Arrowanas, baby Stingrays, Mice, Frogs, Lizards, etc. feeder Goldfish, not so much. Why? I don't know. Images of half-dead feeders stuck to the filter in a pet store that I was at with my Mom as she buys catfood, the employee nonchalantly scraping them off and trashing them, or shoveling random amouts of aquarium salt into the tank, not even dissolving it first. I think that most feeders, if not fed to another fish, will die of bad conditions anyway. Some people will adopt feeder Goldfish. Good idea, thumbs up. Also people who say in the description "All you hippie ____________ out there, if you don't like it, don't watch it!" Then when I say something, I get flamed...that irks me somewhat. Once again, thumbs up on everyone's writing this topic. Well written, civilized. Much different than some other sites I go on...:screwy:
:stingray:
---"Hmmmm...what's under the hood...?"

i also agree. i told him that he needs to understand that they can be fed other food. im planning on keeping piranhas one day, and i have no plans of feeding them any live food at all. its not necessary in an aquarium environment. yes they are carnivores. but i plan on feeding mine raw shrimp from the grocery store. until they are big enough to where i can teach them to eat cichlid sticks.

TOTALLY agree with Aquarist123

What makes a koi more deservant to live than any other fish?

OK question for you. How is this any different from someone who feeds a live rat, rabbit, pinky or any type of live animal to a snake? I don't like the video either but you have to remember that many people do not know how to take care of the pets that they have. They do not know that they can feed their fish already dead animals but you also have to think people probably buy an animal like this for the vary reason of entertainment. Sad but true.

yeah that is a problem. is it a lack of background knowledge on their pet?
