Disgusting story!

I have three cats. One night, one of them was pawing at something on the living room carpet. This particular cat, Andrew, enjoys eating plastic, so of course, when I see him with something, I check it out. (When he eats plastic, he pukes. Not fun.) I go over, and he's got a dead hatchet fish that he's playing with. Ew. Guess it jumped out of the back of my 110 (there was an inch and a half strip open where the filter goes in and out). Not a pleasant sight. Luckily, it had been dead awhile (was already dry), but yuck. Of course, he was thrilled.

OK so about I don't know 2 years ago I had a female Texas in my 29 gallon fish tank. I put 4 giant danios in the tank so that she would come out more and me a little more social. One morning I woke up to find only 3 danios and I figured that she probably ate the fish or killed it. I searched high and low just about everywhere just to make sure the fish didnt jump out. Well about two weeks ago I set up my 75 gallon for my trimac. And today I moved the 29 because there was a person who was supposed to come by and buy it from me. When I moved the stand I saw the danio dried up and crusty laying on my floor. The eyes were gone and so were the fins. And you could see where the insides had come out of the fish and onto the floor It had been sitting there for 2 whole years. Its crazy that I never smelled anything maybe because it was stuck under the stand. It was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

Anyone else have any gross stories they would like to share?

Well, I've had similar experiences with giant danios. They seem to commit suicide on a regular basis if there is any gap in the surface coverage. When I had a gt in my 75g, they even had a little help, as he would knock them out of the tank while surface feeding! :D

whats disgusting is the texas in a 29 gallon.

when i was proly 7 years old i had a goldfish in a bowl. i went to stay with my grandparents one night and brought my fish n kept him in the kitchen. well during the night he jumped out on the floor and when my grandpa went to get a glass of water he stepped on him. he said it made this loud squeak sound so he thought it was a toy and put the now squished fish on the counter. when i went to feed him i found this nasty smashed smelly fish sitting on the counter.

ihad one of my sen bichirs die and i couldnt find it for a couple days...nasty business..i had one of those big, fake cypress roots with the hollow hole up top,an one of my sens like to hide in there ,well i got busy for a couple days and didnt pay attention too it besides feeding, well when i got time i noticed i was missing a fish, looked all over.in the tank, around it ,under it every where. wellit was buggin the hell out of me so i started tearin down my tank, took every thing out checked gravel everything, started puting everything back and when i was lifting one of the roots back in cus i have a big tall tank on a stand i had too lift it by my head and got a big wiff of something nasty so i washed it,scrubed it jst in case some bacteria wasnt maken the plastic stink, still the stinkit didnt help,so i was washing it again and i felt something rattle in there ,looked in the cave hole thing in the root wad and seen part of a white tail,it was one of my albino bichirs come too find out the cypress root stalks are hollow he must of swam down one when he was hiding in the hole and couldnt back himself out and drowned..nasty nasty business..atractive set ups i bought them from petsmart or petco dont member which so heads up..if ya pick one up and own a bunch of young bichirs..

this is kind of old thread but a cool one to bring back up, this definitely happened to me with a zebra danio, i had just bought a dozen of them to try in my cichlid tank to see if they would survive but wanted to grow them out a bit first so put them in my 20g long i have set-up in my room on top of a small dresser, well after checking on them later that day i thought that one was missing but couldnt be sure since they swim so fast and are always moving, so i looked around the tank and everything just to be sure and didnt find anything. well this was several months ago and last week spilled some water into the top drawer of the dresser so took everything out to dry it and find frikin danio-jerky dried up and stuck to the bottom of the drawer underneath the little basket i keep my socks in YUCK!!!

iv just sold my tanks :-( but they went to my best friend :) so i see them practically everyday.
well i just got back from a month in florida and went round there and wondered where my lil senegal was ( i had 3 but this one never seemed to grow so he was still ickle) she said she came down one morning to find that the bottom part of the internal filter had fallen off so it was just the suction and fan bit....im sure u can guess what happened, but she said it was just fish guts everywhere.
i was in tears.

oh god, funny u should say that! those bloody things r lethal!!! i lost my striped raphael and my delhezi to one.
the raph swam in the top and obv couldnt get back out coz his spikes had got caught.
then the del had pretty much done the same, he always used to hide just his head in there, then one day he just didnt come out.
needless to say the root got stamped on and put in the rubbish!

nah at the time i was thinking more along the lines of "this is gross and needs to be cleaned NOW" lol but it was just a little 1in zebra danio and he still had his colors and everything just super dried out like jerky, it was weird
