^ i agree a severum need a 125gal because they get up to 12".

Really? wow i thought they maxed at 8".. and these are the reasons i ask about cichlids before getting them because i know virtually nothing about their sizes other than jags being huge and JDs getting 10"+, unfortunately petsmart just lists them all as wrong sizes (our local one has GTs listed as 6" max, pacu's as 24" max, etc) so i get thrown off, guess i should know better than to trust them by now haha

Go with mascara barbs they are colorful and won't get that big. Fast as hell also. They will constantly cruise the tank. I'd go with a trio. Google filament barbs to seed what they look like. Adult males have a cool green sheen to them.

those barbs look cool and i know u said they're fast but how big do they get? cuz anything under 4" will get eaten by the bichirs eventually in an ambush regardless how fast they are probably

sorry to hear bout that =\

atm in my 40B i keep 2 sens, and ornate, and a tire track eel. It's a grow out. I recently put 12 white cloud mountain minnows in the tank as a cheap dither.. I now have 5.. But.. a peacock eel might be something colorful enough, and different enough? a zig zag would also likely work and both max 12" if that. My advise is anything you put in as a dither don't get upset if you lose, and take that into consideration. I agree with cheap. My guys will wait until lights are out, and pick-off the minnows. Even fast moveing fish will get ambushed, Bichir are smart as far as fish go. Clown loaches imo would nto be a bad choice either as they do grow quite large, but grow very slowly. So if an upgrade is in the works in the next year and you know you're going ot stick to it. They may be worth the few $.

Maybe a few giant danios, or a big school of white clouds. Of course some may get eaten, but white clouds are cheap. They are fast swimmers too and stay small. Sometimes they get ignored by bigger fish for being too fast and small and not worth the chase.

Yeah I know whatever I put in there will most likely eventually be fish food, one reason I was considering Giant Danios haha very cheap can get a school of 5 for 10 bucks :P - I really really like the looks of the peacock eel but that would just add to my bottom dwellers wouldn't it? It's definitely something to consider i'm thinking along the lines of something that will swim mid to high level relatively actively because during the day my ABK stays near the bottom often behind one plant and the sens are always patrolling for food on the bottom, ima definitely research that peacock eel though thanks for the suggestion

i'm leaning towards the danios but i'll look in to white clouds as well
