I have three full grown Silver Dollars in a 29 gallon right now doing fine. Some people like their fish to have tons of room to swim. I like mine to have 'ample' room to swim. I like the 'overstocked' look, as long as the fish remain healthy. Maybe it's just me, but I like seeing a tank filled out. ;)

That being said, I will NOT be buying anymore SDs. They aren't exactly a bold fish.

:)

My silvers aren't skittish at all. But, I have mine in large groups 6+ individuals in big tanks. They're right in your face at feeding time along with everyone else. IMO, keeping them in groups eliminates the shy, skittish behavior you're seeing.

Giant danios really do work well as a dither fish. I've got a group of 5 in my salvini tank. You might also consider some of the larger rainbow species. I honestly don't think the sevs would bother them.

Convicts are quite the little devils, aren't they? A few of those wouldn't work, would they? I like their look, and attitude but I want all my fish to be happy and healthy. Maybe a Firemouth... ?

...:nilly:...

Convict, no. I have two and at 2" they try to beat the $&*% out of my adult africans.

Firemouth, possibly. I also have one and he(?) is very timid. He has no tank mates though so thats why it's a possible.

I didn't think the Cons would work.. The Firemouth was the fish I originally wanted to get, but saw the Severums, and well, you know. If i could make 1 of them work that would make me VERY happy.

Yeah, firemouths are really bad when it comes to breeding aggresion, in my experiance. Males by themselves though are all show and no go.
