Dithers-Why are they important?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cool video. You should tell that fish to calm down or he's gonna die at a young age of a hard attack.

It's funny how stubborn bichirs are. My cichlids try to shove my Ornate around, but he just lays there ignoring them.

Your definition of dither fish is wacked. A dither fish is that which is used to draw out shy or timid fish by giving them a sense of security.

Here is a nice article on dither fish, http://www.fishinthe.net/ArticlesandWallpapers/dither_fish.htm

Wow, that's embarrassing, thanks for the correction.

Edit- Looked into it more, there is still info on dithers saying that fast, schooling fish are ideal. (tetras, barbs, danios) http://everything2.com/index.pl?node=Dither fish So I guess that I wasn't too off.:)

Target Fish might be the correct term to use.

Target fish would be a much better term, thanks.
I'll have to change the title of my vid.

Silver Dollars / Balas / Giant Danios / Alot of the Barbs.

They are all good choices, and most make your larger fish feel comfortable enough to come out from hiding if they are timid. (the main reason to use them IMO)

Not a big mistake though, seems as if it has become more common to refer to most target fish and even smaller schooling fish as dithers. Sorry if I came off a little rude in my last post, I guess the use of slang terms is not always best for print.

I did enjoy the video you posted, I like how tight those "dithers":D stick together.

everyone on here calls them dithers, so i got into that habit, too. nice to know I'm not using the term correctly :D

That is basically what I'm saying, but I wouldn't call it exploitation.
