I've always wanted to learn to be a pro scuba diver. But would rather do it in the ocean, rather than the dirty lakes here.

as for being certifed in lakes my friend did it in the finger lakes upstate.

It really is going to be great. I love diving - just writing this makes me want to be underwater!
I dive anyplace I can. In Oregon I've dove Three Arches (just offshore of Tillamook Head) and lots of river and lake diving. I've dove Hood Canal up in Washington several times.
Mostly I dive in Mexico. Twice a year my wife and I go South of Puerto Vallarta. That part of the pacific isn't famous for great diving, but the water is warm and there's tons of big fish to check out. Once a year we go to the Yucatan for Cenote (freshwater sinkhole) diving. The Cenotes are incredible - 300' of visibility makes it like flying through Earth's interior.
A few tips:
Know your equipment and double check all your gear BEFORE putting it on.
Work your jaw and swallow to help equalize - don't blow too hard or you can damage your sinuses/eustachian tubes. This is especially important on fast descents.
Perfect your buoyancy. It will make diving a lot more enjoyable. Use the minimum necessary weight and little or no air in your BC. Think of yourself as a submarine; Your lungs are your ballast tanks, breathe in deeply to ascend and exhale completely to descend.
Finish your certification and get diving!

Ive been snorkling everywhere when i was younger.(even though im 21 though and still in college.) My parents have taken me on every trip possible. every virgin island, domincan republic, puerto rico, costa rica, brazil, alot of South America.
I cant wait to start.

You'll love it, I havent been on to many dives or anywhere cool just Jupiter/Westpalm but mannn I love it. Yes get to know your gear.... very well =] If you look on my profile I have a select few of my dive photos uploaded, no where near all of them though. Mann just talking about it makes me want to go diving!!!
