OK my noob is showing. Why do I need a chemilizer or the equivalent ?

Chlorine and chloramine removal. The two things that Seachem Prime is typically used to remove.

to rid tap water of chloramines/chlorine in a drip system.
Oh. OK. I'm here to learn.

vos perceptum quispiam cotidie

ok went to lowes and did the math :) to run two of the basic carbon filters, cartridges, fittings (since these are 3/4") and brackets (since they dont come with any :irked:) i'm looking at about $80.

since i also wanna get the chloramine test kit from filterguys, i decided to go with their chloramine filter system. even though shipping kills me, it still comes out the same as if i bought the lowes filters and test kit from them. so i figured id just go with a better quality filter, not to mention clear housings vs. the white ones at lowes :)

since they charge a butthole and a half for shipping, im assuming this will arrive yesterday. stay tuned

shouldn't be more than two-three days. I got my carbon super fast.

Excellent thread!

I found my 2008 water reports and they don't list chloramine, but think I'll still stick with the filter from the filter guys to be safe.

Keep posting pictures!

I have a 1" drain on my tank with a valve hooked to it that I was using for water changes - would it be possible to hook the drip system up to that to feed the water into my tank? Then just drill the sump, so when it fills, it drains out of the sump?

Did you get the filter yet?

comes in today

I have a quick question, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to drain the outgoing water, my aquarium is next to the furnace/water heater room and so I would imagine there would be some kind of drain there, but I can't figure it out. Any suggestions on where to drain my excess water?

You should have some kind of condensation removal system with your furnace and I would assume to have some sort of a drain to go along with the water heater. I would follow the lines and see where they go. Otherwise, you may have to pump the water out of the sump unless you are on a crawlspace or have a basement.
