so, my dream looks like it may finally come true. yesterday, my dad agreed to help me and my little brother build an 8x2x2, which, according to the converter on this site, is a 240 gallon tank:D.

it probably won't happen for 2-3 months, maybe more, but i'm still really excited.

i will have to sell my 35 (big deal), and so will my brother, but we both feel it will be way well worth it (duh).

today we were thinking about what to stock it with (we're looking at a SA aggressive community), and we came up with this:

2 silver arowanas or black aro + silver aro
female jag + female festae or female black nasty + female festae
some kind of ray or some kind of catfish (TSN? Lima?)

i don't know how over or under stocked i am, but i'm guessing there will be huge aggression problems. tell me what to ditch and what to swap with what.

thanks in advance, and any help and suggestions are appreciated.:D

Hmm, 2' wide will be a little tight for the aro & TSN. Otherwise I'd think that would work.

Think you could talk your Dad into 8x3x2? Then you'd be good with your black aro and you could do the lima (I think even then the TSN might be too big).

240 isn't going to be large enough for one silver for life, either, although an 8x3x2 might suffice. I wouldn't try a black nasty, either. I jag would probably be okay and a festae MIGHT be okay, but def probably not a nasty and a festae. A lima would be great. If you make an 8x3x2, a marbled sailfin cat would be nice. a juruense might work in the 240.

i can't see how adding one more foot would be a problem. an 8x3x2 is fine i guess.

any other ideas for fish?

thanks guys, and keep the suggestions coming

then why not go for a 10x4x3 :lol2:. you could probably keep 3 silver/black aros and a TSN, then :D

If you go w/ 8x3x2, It might be okay to have ONE Black Aro and you could have a juruense or L. longibarbus. I would add some polys. You could go with some cichlids. a jag, maybe a motoguense or festae might work and some tinfoil barbs for dithers.

I would go for the 3' width and a black aro...and a gar. If I had the space I'd have a black aro and a gar for sure. Also agreed on the polys.

The risk you take with the aggro cichlids is you take a chance on having a huge tank with one or too real SOB's and you can't get anything else.

you can get jags cheap and if it turns out to be really aggressive, you can get rid of it pretty easily.

Yea go for the 3 foot wide dimension, get Lima's not tsn's or Gars, some big plecos.
why not cichla instead of jags?

never thought of cichla. maybe because i have never seen one in a store around here:screwy:. and i love festaes (one of my favourite aquarium fish, big, aggresive, and pretty as hell).

but how many pbass could i do?

thanks for the help so far, and keep it coming

i would say if you did Mono's or ocellies in the 8*3*2*, i would do 3 or 4 if your planning on a Silver aro and some lima's
