forget the two aros and get one aro and a shortnose gar

be patient, you haven't even started building yet.

don't try to get an 8x2 piece of glass. get 8x4 and cut it in half. you'll need 2 anyway.

50 Clown Loaches

i'm the same way :lol2:

the fantasy brian was talking about was having 2 aros. if they end up not getting along and you have to separate them, you won't have anywhere to put them. besides, that's not really enough for 2 fully sized blacks/silvers

what stocking list are you currently thinking about and what substitutions would you accept? i think we've given you enough good ideas about what's possible.

I replied to your confusion(hi lighted below in red)as to why no one will take the time to post their thoughs. Plus I also added my thoughts one one of your many possible stock options that you have suggested. Sorry that you are unable to comprehend this and you found my reply "useless"

out of everyone to view this thread, none have stopped to take the 2 minutes it does to post an answer. please help me out guys

BTW this is just fantasy, typical of teenage kids. This is much like the dozen posts you had regarding the 75 gallon you were getting. Those were almost a year ago and now the only change is the size of the tank in your wishful thinking. Heck read your original post, even you refer to it as a dream(again, hi lighted below in red).

so, my dream looks like it may finally come true.

your right, and i don't want to argue. it might not happen. might not. or, it will happen. the thing is, my parents are seperating, so my dad is living here (the original house), and my mom is moving out. i saw an auction on ebay for an 8x2x4 tank with filteration for 100 bucks (it was one of the tanks that they have at fish stores). my mom says not until everything with the seperation is sorted out, but the auction was only up for 3 more days:(. so i told my dad about it, and asked him if we could build one once everything was settled. he said sure, so i got excited. very excited.

if we do build the tank, it could happen as soon as early March.

the reason i got kinda mad was because i knew that you were right, and my parents do sometimes say things that they don't mean. i just have a good feeling about this one:D

now back to the original topic. i read about arowana compatibility, and found that they don't do so well in groups. i didn't know that because i always figured that they got along well with each other because of all of the aro communities that i have seen on youtube and stuff. so maybe, if the tank happens, i will get one silver aro, 2 clown knives, 2 cichla, and 2 other large cichlids. maybe add a gar or something.

if the tank happens, i think i am going to buy the aro about a week into building the tank, so that it has a chance to get some size on it before i add the cichlids. should i do the same with the knives? how fast do aros and clown knives grow? i don't want a foot long knife in my 35 for too long:grinno:.

thanks for the help guys, and the reality check

you def want the aro to be past the sensitive stage before putting it in with cichlids and it should be larger if going w/ a silver or black. putting two clown knife fish together is usually worse than putting two aros together. both aros and clowns grow pretty fast to about 24" or so. I would be wary about getting either until you have the tank completed in case something goes wrong.

alrighty then. it will probably take me a while to find some cichla around here anyways;).

so, instead of the second clown what could i do? maybe i will do an eel or something like that...

any suggestions for a second top-swimmer to replace one of the aros?

Gar dude, Florida or spotted gar. Though apparently there's a concern that a large aro will harass/attack a gar leading to injury ie. a broken back. Lots of folks do that combo around here though so I assume it's trial & error and depends on the individual fish.

Anyway if you're sticking with a 2' wide tank I'd skip the aro...though you're in Canada, get an Asian :)

i'm thinking i'm going to gor for the 3 foot width. if not, well, i'll have to look at other stocking options;).

asian aros are a bit out of my price range, so i think i'm going to stick with a silver. if i can only go with the 2 foot width though, would a jardini work?

thanks for the help so far guys
