DIY 450G Glass Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bump::

I plan to use toughened glass as it will be bottom drilled. Would like to know if it is necessary or just plain glass is enuf? There are 4 drilled holes. 2 for inlet and 2 for outlet.
Any thoughts on this? :)

Thx Tor...

Now for some updates and help.
The preferred dimension which I wanted had to be changed:
1) due to space
2) due to unavailability of 15mm glass

So now my dimensions are 8'x3'x2' 360g (previously was 10x3x2.5 450g). The only option I had with glass was a 19mm which has definitely dented a big hole in ma pocket, but I'm determined to see it through. The delivery should be done sometime this week.

So now for some help :)
The holes I am going to drill are 1" for the sump drain and 3/4" for the supply with two overflows.
1) do I require two overflow? Or just one in the centre is enuf?
2) what is the best side to drill the glass?
3) the pump required for a 100g sump? Would a 700-900gph be sufficient?
4) now since I have the 19mm... Should I be sticking to the bracing top and bottom or just the top and sides?

Thanks y'all,

Najib

hey najib
i dont think ull need 2 overflow since u wont be going marine on this setup...
u dont come 2 kac that much so i followed u here;);)

Hahah... U didn't have to.. I am always there in KAC ;)

Well with the overflow... Not sure on the overflows actually. I am opting for a 5X turnover and I found very good info in the stickies here. So I am opting for a dual overflow box with durso pipes. With one of the pipes an inch or half lower than the other. This way I will have one drain going at full flow and the other with lower flow.
The thing I am not sure about is the pipe I need to use :| 1" or 1.25"....

Btw... What's ur nick in KAC? :)
