DIY Acrylic 6x4 (pic intense)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I picked it up myself (yes it was local). Shop around. you need cast acrylic only and I would recommend having them cut it to your dimentions (if they do precision cuts). Be sure to measure the dimentions when you pick it up.
I read your question about replacing a front panel on an acrylic tank...it would be very difficult but maybe not impossible. If you can get it cheap enough to take a chance. Removing the panel would be the hard part. Maybe someone here has some experiance on how to do that. Once it's off, the edges would need prepped (flat and smooth). There are different ways to do that...I prefer a router. A router table may work if you have a couple people to help. It would deffinitely be a job. Good luck.

Cool. Yeah that is Exactly what I thought. As long as you Take the edges to a routered smooth finish and make sure that your measurements are Dead on (Spot on to those in the UK :)) so that the new panel sits flush, then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.... but like you said, it would be a job. But I don't mind projects like that....

They are asking $250 for the 300gal tank and have already admitted to being willing to negotiate.... SO I don't know...

Well...I could use a bigger tank:) (and I'm not big on the lids, but they work). Honestly, I have had zero issues so far. Even moved one time since the build. Can't say I would do it different. Even the filteration is a DIY moving filter bed. Will probably add a UV pond filter in the future. Will use the same design when I build my next tank, but that will be awhile...

first ive seen of this thread... loveing the size and build... makes me reconsider acrylic work.

This is an awesome build. Hopefully, once I sell my house and buy another, I will be able to do this.
