Diy Air pumps?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you want to make your own pump, don't waste your time there are alot of good pumps for reasonable prices. if you are talking about a central air system that is a different story and many of us have central air systems either with a large piston pump and lots of air lines (hard and soft), the best I have seen used an air blowers with pvc piping with air values drilled every 10 feet with silicon air line from there

This is for the 1000g I'm building so yh a central air system would be good

How much pressure do you need?
How many cubic centimeters of air do you need?
These are the first two questions that have to be answered to build an air pump.

What's your budget?

Honestly, I'm not to sure
The tank is 3ft high and is 1123g

As for budget. Atm, I just wanna see the options. I don't even know if I'll definitely do this

Air pumps are cheap. No use making one yourself. I'm not sure how you would make a reliable powerful one out of normally attainable parts.

If you have a special need for a really powerful one, you might look into getting an air compressor and reservoir tank or something. A small aircompressor made for an airbrush or for dentistry work would be something that could work (they're oilless, so no contamination).

I've played with the idea of using a pump like this:http://www.amazon.com/Quiet-AIRBRUS...390397836&sr=8-3&keywords=airbrush+compressor

Attached to a 1-5 gallon air tank with regulators and adjustable valves. I think its way overkill though, and I don't know how long those types of compressors would last at being used so much (i'm guessing 50/50 duty cycle, but they may only last a year at that much use)

The problem is most commercial use air pumps or air compressors are either meant for HUGE volume, or high pressure. Aquarium pumps are medium volume low pressure (.1-2 cfm at .5-3psi), so not a lot of other products on the market that you can easily adapt to aquarium use.

For a large volume pump, I would go with these, they're a good price for how much air they pump out: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3669+12912+14684&pcatid=14684

Now that's a good idea! Thanks very much!!
