For what it's worth, I did the blocked end of an airline and using a pin method. Seems to work decently.

At first I used a needle to make the holes but they didn't work as well as I wanted. So I used a thumb tack and the result is much better.

Don't know if that helps
might test it out thanks

Not fragile, clog less than regular airstones and clean up well in vinegar when they finally do.
nice but $$ lol

i found this for you

normaly i am using the smallest airstones, because i can use 3 or 4 in the tank and they are making more bubles than 4 big airstones. When i was a kid a created my own airstones from sand-stone. This weekend i made 4 new airstones after few years again. I simply made a hole in a stone with a dril , then put in the tube(in a half of size of the stone) and use glue, which takes 24hour to get hard. I am creating own airsotnes, because they are makeing more bubles as all airstones i have ever seen(also one stone makes different sizes of bubles), i can also make some nice shapes and sizes.(so i do not have to hide it like all blue or green airstone). They work super even if you do not have big air pump

dont know if it work but worth a try
its different
dont really get it unless its just a hole in a rock with a hose jammed in it lol

ok so i went to petsmart
no luck on tiny round ones
but i did find this
they now have a box of airstones, says bulk
each airstone is in a baggy and is cheap
here is how it goes
pack of 6 airstones-3 bucks
pack of 2 airstones-1.50
pack of 1 airstone-70 cents
baggy with 1airstone-30 cents
so for 2 bucks i got 6,when the 6 pack is 3 bucks
or
i got an airstone in a baggy for 30 cents when the packaged 1 airstone is 70 cents!
weird,but it was right,and i stocked up
:D

but if anyone comes up with a DIY airstone post it up :D
and bump this to the next page too :D

I might try that sand stone one, I'll give you a shout about how it goes..

...now if only I could find some sandstone. :D

This post is long-dead, however I just made a dirt-cheap, dirt-easy method.
1/4" irrigation soaker hose, weighed down with rock/substrate (it will float off...). Just made a ring with a t fitting to connect the air line from the pump/manifold. I think a check valve is needed too...
