DIY Driftwood Arangement

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
took your DIY and did my own too. Just started into the hobby. Bought a piece of slate today at Home Depot for 67 cents and a Masonry bit. Treated the Mopani driftwood by boiling and soaking for 3 days. And magic, heres the results.

Looking good.I have now done this with all my driftwood in my tank (about 12 pieces) and it works very well, no need to move it back into place after the cichlids moved it to where they think it works.

Great idea. Looks really nice.

Beat me to the punch!

Very cool...I ended up attaching the 2 pieces I had to each other with stainless screws...Don't do this unless you predrill, as Mopani it as hard as oak, etc...

Never thought to use zip ties...

Did you use a normal drill or hammer type, I have a hammer drill and bits, just curious how hard slate is compared to say concrete...

Looks good. In stead of the slate, could I use a piece of acrylic?

Slightly off topic, can the wood from terrariums (reptile wood pieces) use for aquariums?

LOL the dog came attached withe the slate.

@ Racersk- Slate is very soft when you drill it, it takes longer to drill the wood so you can basically use any drill.

@ SIMKWANAOdbALLs- Unfortunately my camera skills are non existent and my pics always make my tank look awfully so no I don't have any pics :-)

@ half crab- If the acrylic is strong enough to keep the wood standing it should be fine but I think they paint the wood for terrariums with varnish and I don't know if that is good for your fish.
