ok guys it is 5:30 am and i cant sleep lol because of this filter tell me what you think. im going to build a presser pot type filter that should be able to do 500+ gallon tanks that are well stocked for under 100$.
i have some 5 gallon buckets sitting around as well as a pool filter from one of those blow up pools i polled out of the trash. the idea is to hoke up the pump to pump water into the first bucket that will be the filter pads and carbon pads from there the water will travel out of a hose in the top to the next bucket were it will have area for charcoal or any other hard filter media and again leaving from the top of that bucket into the third stage that will be the bio balls then finally returning back to the tank. i feel that the reef crystal salt mix buckets will work the best because thay have a screw on top it makes me feel safer but the ones you get from home depot should work just as will. flex tubing into each bucket and for the return 1.5" pvc with a y and 2 exit ports so you can direct the water flow coming out to create a current will be starting this project in the next few days will post pic's. but if this works it should be able to keep the dirtyist fish in clean water with out having to spend 300$+ on one or more canister filters. plus no drilling is needed so you dont have to worry about paying big$ for a chance that someone could mess up an older glass tank.
