If I had to do something, I would just remove the union on each side of the pump. If it's anything like my little giant I won't have to touch it for a long time though.
Is this like a service area that you work the tanks and filter from, but when people view your tanks they do so from the other side and cant see the workings?
I have a carpet cleaner LOL. That pump is almost silent. I can hear my little giant that's in an enclosed stand over the sequence.

I've been thinking about adding a sand filter. If I take a large diameter tube and put it around the pipe that sticks down (between the 2 unions right after the pump) with sand it it, would there be a problem with just letting the sand fluidize and having the water spill over the top?
I was thinking that the floor covering was the only thing wrong with your setup, but Dr. Joe pointed out that it just shows your confidence. I spill too much, when I built my house I didn't put any carpet in at all.
It looks awesome, I am very jealous of your fish room!
