I was thinking that the floor covering was the only thing wrong with your setup, but Dr. Joe pointed out that it just shows your confidence. I spill too much, when I built my house I didn't put any carpet in at all.

It looks awesome, I am very jealous of your fish room! :)

Thanks! I've had tanks in that room for 2 years and the carpet still looks alright. It's been wet a couple of times, but mainly from my absent mind on a water change. Now that the drip system is all worked out it has been great.

My carpet gets wet on occasion too. I look forward to having a basement with no carpet!

LMAO!!

No, but that would be cool as hell. I'm eventually going to build a padded platform over the sump to hide it.

 You cover that work of art? Then you'd probably put clothes on the Venus statue!!! I won't allow it! :swear:

I've been thinking about adding a sand filter. If I take a large diameter tube and put it around the pipe that sticks down (between the 2 unions right after the pump) with sand it it, would there be a problem with just letting the sand fluidize and having the water spill over the top?

No, not if you can find the right weight sand for the pump flow.

(That is pre-filtered water right?)

If so, I think it's a good idea.

I'll take my time making the enclosure, and thanks for the vote of confidence on the sand filter:) (The water is filtered before it reaches the sand, if that's what you mean)

Go for it man. If anyone can do it, you can.

I'm going to start on it tonight:D

Here we go some more:D (original http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114818 For those that missed it)

I decided that I'm not going to use sand in the recirculation filter, but I'll use ceramic media instead. I'm afraid of the sand overflowing and getting into pump. I think I'll be ok with ceramic.

Here is the tube I used. it was one of those light changing bubble tubes. It has been laying around since college.

Here it is in operation (minus media). I'll be getting an adjustable PVC repair pipe so I can adjust the depth of the PVC into the acrylic tube. Right now I'm just checking flow/function.

That kicks ass dude! You really should try building a space shuttle next

Looks great. I have something like that. I have the filtered water go through a DIY sand filter the returns through a diy PVC bio tower in the sump.

General rule around here is ... don't talk about it unless you post a pic ;) otherwise I'd be saying I have a 12' RTC living in my 45' X 45' basement tank which is built out of papermache LOL :j/k:
