DIY Fish Transport Cooler

Finally got around to putting a digital thermometer on. I cut a slightly oversized hole in the top of the cooler lid, an used some expanding foam to seal up the hole an recess the thermometer about half way. drilled a 1/2" hole to feed the tempature Probe an suction cup threw, that Ill fill with an ampile amount of silicone.

I think im done with this project, now I can work on an finish others.

Good for moving fish from house to house. Great simple idea.

A check valve would stop your airstone filling up with water.

The themometer is a bit too much over-engineering for me since it would be just as easy to put the sensor in and out as needed. Plus I would prefer not to know the temp since theres not much you can do in transit is there?

If you know the temp and is too high or too low you can add ice cubes, heat packs etc to regulate the temp. Much safer.

Particually if your doing long trips, say 1 hour+

My experience is that it is safer not to play with temp. Mind you I live in Australia where it doesnt snow. The box is insulated and quite large (water volume) so theres something seriously wrong if you have to adjust temp on trips less than 4 hours. Even in summer a 3 day trip here wouldnt require ice.

Good to see what other people do though.

these things are worth there wieght in gold for those long fish trips. on wine ( I know I'm crazy ) I have a sponge filter and a Nano Cube Tank chiller (it getts hot in socal plus I got it on the cheap) and I use a Auto AC Power Inverter. Plus I run every thing from the top except the chiller wich is on the side with a bulk head I just putt that on two weeks ago when I made it I was woried about water leaking out the side.

Sometimes they may get a bit cool so I use warm water in a water sealed bag and just place it in with a heavy weight.
