I have an older 120 that needs a new frame/brace and I am unable to anyone that sells one for that size. I have dismantled the tank. I was thinking of cutting the glass and changing the dimensions to 48 x 18 and I will be able to purchase a new frame/brace. My problem is the bottom glass is tempered that means I would have to now use it for the front or back section as opposed to remaining on the bottom. The bottom glass is 1/4 thickness tempered while the remaining glass is 3/8 regular clear glass. Will the 1/4 tempered be strong enough to replace the 3/8 regular in the front or back? 48x18x24 Thanks

You could do euro brace for the top.
If the bottom is fully supported and on a level stand you can put a sheet of styrofoam underneath.
The stand has to be solid and level front to back and side to side.
I have five tanks that have been running for years without a frame.

The plastic tank frame provides almost no structural support. The only structural component it really adds is the top center brace to reduce the side glass panels from bowing. The major purpose of the frames is they make tank manufacturing much easier because they align all the glass panels for easy assembly.

I would reccomend reassembeling the tank with the same dimensions and add the euro-bracing recommended by Big-G which will give you the support needed. Or buy a new pane of glass for the bottom and not use the current tempered glass bottom.

If you really want to change the dimensions of the tank I think you will be much better off if you just buy a tank the size you want.
