DIY lighting

Because you will be hard pressed to find ANY lighting at HD or others that is above 5500K. Hence it appears more yellow.
 
Most of them actualy hover around 3300K, which when put through water will appear very yellow indeed!
 
We were talking about halogen lamps. They burn at a higher temp, giving a whiter light.
 
Sorry, this is not true. They still burn near to 5500K at the best, most are MUCH lower. Call the manuf. and ask about their Kelvin ratings. You will discover that I have done my research.

IME the halogens will give a yellowish tints, while Xenon and MH will be a higher K rating.
Maybe i've just tried the wrong halogens lol.
 
I would justt like to add a bit of backround on myself and lighting......

I have been studying lighting and intensity for 10+ years. My exp. stems from my keeping and propagation of SPS corals. I can assure you that I have tested virtualy every type of lighting availble to us here in the US.

You can use fixtures and certain ballasts from local hardware places, but the bulb itself will need to be specialized, unless of course you can cope with the yellow color. 10K and up is where you actualy have a whiter bulb.
