DIY Monster Canister Filter!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it claims 1500 gph through a garden hose...which is 1/2 id

What brand is it and what series. I have never seen a sump pump manufacture claim such garbage.

There is no way in hell its going to pump 1500 GPH through a garden hose. Unless this is measured and im proven otherwise, I call BS marketing at fault here.

I can't tell exactly by the pictures but it looks like the fitting on the pump is larger than 3/4".

This could be true but no matter what it will flow more than any canister you can buy for under $300 let alone under $70

so just :chillpill:

BTW do you really think once its all said and done any aquarium pumps pump the GPH they are rated? Its just the nature of the game

Its actually a garden hose thread on the pump but I jumped it up to 3/4" right away.

Fish eat fish,
I'm not trying to doubt ya,
I hope this DIY canister works and works well for ya. If your fish get more filtration then it's a win win situation...
So where are ya now on your project?

Plastic is cheap...why take the chance?

I have been waiting for some silicone to fully cure. The first test was just to see how she worked this next one will be to see how its sealed. And YES I AM EXPECTING IT TO LEAK. When it does ill find from where and fix it. Then I will repeat this procedure until shes air tight.

luckily the tank its going on is sitting in my garage so I can fully set it up and test it to death before it moves inside.

You went from garden hose male to 3/4" hose barb right?

nope I threaded a pvc elbow on there and then slipped a 1" ID on the that and then went to the 3/4 id barb

There is some Marine Adheasive/Sealant from 3M
It's called "3M 5200 fast cure"... sets up in an hour and cured in 24hrs.
I've used it on the commercial fishing boats as well as on my aquaria...It's a bit expensive but it WILL seal what you put it on...:headbang2

I have got it at my local HomeDepot, but I live on the coast...
ACE hardware has it too...
you might have to ask for it by name...
