I just put a black light behind mine at night

You might be doing fine but I have always stayed away from blacklight. The problem is that blacklight flickers differintly that regular floresent bulbs and I have been told that to fish it is like having a strobe light on all the time. It stresses them out, sometimes to the point of making them crazy or dead.

just cut all light out at night. How would you like light shining in youre face all night while youre trying to sleep. Be kind to youre fish. :goldfish:

calm down dude, fish and humans dont prefer the same atmosphere. You're basically saying get the fish a nice bedroom, because humans dont like to sleep on sand.

I run my day lights until 9 then switch to moon light and then kill the moon light around 12. My fish seem to get it, the Gourami , Rainbow shark, and the Redtail shark all hit the hay when the day lights go off, the bala's I think goto sleep when the moonlight goes off. I say I think because i can't see anything or any movement "because it to dark" even when I put my face up to the glass

I've had the black light back the for a couple of months 4 i would guess. if it had been flickering I would have taken it out but it dosen't flicker so i leave it there it's really dim so it just barelly illuminates the outlines in the tank.

You wouldn't be able to see the flickering I was talking about. All black lights flicker to most fish and are no good.

so i also am building moonlighting, what's the preferred color blue or red? Any reasons? thanks!

haha! i know that but i've seen a few with red, they say red can't be seen as well, dunno if that's true or not, just asking, i'll go with blue, was leaning that way anyhow
